This Monday the latest IPCC report has been published, a synthesis of the last 8 years of scientific studies on climate change. The message is clear: we are running out of time to guarantee a habitable future, and giving up on acting is not an option.

The tourism sector is being one of the most affected and measures must be implemented collectively to achieve a greater impact. A clear example is rethinking energy consumption.

Although it may seem like a complicated task, there are many cost-effective ways that hotels and hotel chains can reduce energy use without sacrificing the comfort of their guests.

Don't know how to start saving energy in your hotel? Take note of these 10 tips that will help you achieve it.

1. Install a programmable thermostat. These devices can adjust the temperature of the hotel to keep it at a comfortable level for guests, but without spending an excessive amount of energy. In addition, some programmable thermostats have different settings for the hotel's occupancy and vacancy periods.

2. Use LED lamps. These lights consume less energy than conventional lamps, allowing you to save on your electricity bill without sacrificing the hotel's lighting.

3. Involve your guests. Invite guests to be part of the climate fight. Both oral and written communication is essential for the message to reach. You can propose a responsible use of lighting and electrical devices and turn off appliances when leaving the room.

4. Install solar panels. Solar energy is a clean and economical way to generate electricity. If your hotel is located in a place with an adequate level of sunlight, photovoltaic self-consumption can be an excellent way to save energy.

5. Use heat pumps. These devices are an efficient way to heat or cool the air, allowing you to reduce energy consumption.

6. Replace old appliances. If the appliances in the hotel and/or hotel chain are old or inefficient, you should consider replacing them with modern and highly efficient devices. These use less energy and will be much more profitable in the long run.

7. Install motion sensors. These devices detect when someone is in the room and automatically turn on the light. This means that the light will not stay on when it is not needed, which will help reduce energy consumption.

8. Take advantage of natural light. Keep the blinds open to allow natural light to enter and thus reduce the use of artificial lighting.

9. Invest in adequate insulation. Make sure your hotel is properly insulated to reduce the amount of energy that is lost through walls and windows.

10. Use a sustainability management system. Correctly managing consumption, calculating emissions, the water footprint... All this and more is possible thanks to the Bioscore software. It is responsible for putting the necessary tools at your disposal to efficiently and easily manage the sustainability of your hotel.

Following these tips guarantees significant energy savings. This not only allows you to make your hotel profitable, but also contributes to creating a healthier planet for everyone, so your guests can continue to enjoy their stay for a long time.
