Roiback, Google Premier Partner and Tripadvisor Preferred Partner, has successfully closed its Hotel Distribution Live 2023 (HDL23) event at Tianguis Turístico CDMX. The event, which took place on March 27 at the Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City, was attended by more than 100 attendees representing more than 40 Mexican hotel companies and the main hotel associations.
During the executive luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to learn about travel trends and data from major outbound markets presented by Google and Tripadvisor, showcasing the significant momentum of growth in the travel industry.
Tourism is back
With Ana Martinez and Javier Castellanos, Google shared with attendees the main metrics that demonstrate a consolidation of the return of interest in travel. Consumers are eager to travel again compared to other types of spending. 30% plan to spend on travel, accommodation and vacations.
Although the data shows growing concern about widespread price increases, the travel industry is expected to grow by double digits in 2023 with 75% of demand still to be actioned as most travelers have not yet started booking their vacations.
What do travelers want when booking their next trip?
For its part, Tripadvisor, which featured a presentation by Erick Ordóñez, unveiled its data showing that travel is clearly recovering. Globally, demand for international travel matched 2019's share, with average spending at least twice as much on foreign travel as in the domestic market.
Travelers are now seeking higher-value experiences, with a 25% increase in demand for experiences and a preference for food, culture and nature. Travelers are also looking for more flexibility and free cancellations, and rely on recommendations from other travelers when searching for accommodations.
In terms of destinations, North American travelers are spending more on international travel, while EMEA travelers tend to stay longer in destinations. Overall, travelers are planning longer and higher value trips than last year at this time, with a 10% increase in growth rates.
